• "A Day In Paris" for twelve cellos

A Day In Paris was composed and complete on 9th September 2010. The tune popped into my head out of the blue, and I decided to write it for cello choir, as I’ve always wanted to compose something for this formation. This piece is about a couple strolling along the streets of Paris, and the sights they see along the way, such as a clown juggling in the minor section. The main theme and it’s harmonisation represents the accordions commonly heard in France. It’s world premiere was on 28th October 2011 by cello students of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore, at its Cellissimo concert.

  • "A Jolly Good Time" for two bassoons & piano

A Jolly Good Time was composed in August 2011. After playing Beethoven's 5th Symphony (1st movement) a few times in a conducting class, the idea of using its opening motif came to my mind immediately. Thus, I played around with it, changed it to a major key, sort of jazzed it up and made the two bassoons play it a 2nd apart to create a clash in tonality in the introduction. After that, another melody takes over and it is played in a fun and jovial interaction between the three instruments right up till the end. This piece had it's premiere on the 10th September 2011 at a bassoon recital with Aw Yong Tian and Yap Pei Ying on bassoons and myself on piano.

  • "Intermezzo" for flute & piano

Intermezzo was composed in 2010, and it was written in the style of my favourite composer, Johann Sebastian Bach with a New Age/pop-ish twist, especially in the middle section. It reminds one of "Allegro" from his Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G Major, BWV 1048.

  • "Reflections" for clarinet, horn & piano

Reflections was composed on 29th August 2013 and it was inspired by American composer, Eric EWAZEN. Having played his trio for flute, horn and piano, I like the very pastoral feel of that piece, especially the second movement. I use the clarinet and horn because I like their warm tones and (to me personally) very pastoral feel.

  • "Etude In Contrary Motion" for solo piano

Etude In Contrary Motion was composed on 9th December 2011. I wanted to write an etude for piano and the thought of writing something in contrary motion came to my mind immediately. Written in the key of G Major, this etude is both a fun yet technically challenging piece. I intentionally wrote 3 bars for crossed-hands in the middle part to add to the fun.
